According to Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, Gabriel Martinelli was taken from the field against Everton on Sunday owing to a muscular injury.
The representative of Brazil has had a solid start to the Premier League campaign once again, coming close to opening the scoring at Goodison Park.
Fabio Vieira’s exquisite through ball allowed Martinelli to score, but the goal was overturned because Eddie Nketiah was offside during the setup.
The 22-year-old was observed complaining about a muscle issue during the VAR review and was replaced by Leandro Trossard in the 24th minute.
After taking some time to adjust, Trossard eventually made the difference with a magnificent left-footed goal in the 69th minute.
After the game, Arteta stated that Martinelli’s injury occurred during the ‘activity for the run on the goal’ and that he will be evaluated.
He claimed: “He felt it after the action for the run on goal, and normally he’s not one of the players to have muscular issues, but he had to come off, so let’s see.”
Over the past 18 months, Martinelli has been the Gunners’ undisputed left wing starter.
Considering Trossard’s preseason showing, there were doubts about his starting position before the beginning of the season, but Arteta remained confident in him.
The Brazilian had a missed opportunity to score against Everton but has recorded two assists this year.
Martinelli, who is now rated by Transfermarkt at €80 million, will now be examined for a muscular ailment and may not be available for the game on Wednesday.
If there is a problem, he might have to wait longer to make his Champions League debut.
