Virgil van Dijk’s future at Liverpool is still uncertain despite dismissing reports of a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
According to The Athletic’s Transfer DealSheet, Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr has not contacted Liverpool about a possible transfer.
The journalists shared that senior Liverpool sources, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed there has been no approach from Al Nassr regarding van Dijk.
The Dutch international, who has one year left on his contract, remains a key player for incoming head coach Arne Slot. However, if a new deal is not reached, he would become a free agent next summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is heavily linked with Lille defender Leny Yoro.
Van Dijk, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah, has a contract expiring in the summer of 2025.
Liverpool cannot afford to lose van Dijk in 2025. Despite past doubts about Mo Salah due to his serious injury, there is no doubt that van Dijk’s long-term future should be at Anfield.
At 32 (turning 33 in July), van Dijk is still in excellent shape, and his defensive abilities remain strong. Since recovering from a serious injury inflicted by Everton’s Jordan Pickford, van Dijk has arguably been at his best.
Liverpool must do everything possible to keep van Dijk at Anfield beyond his 2025 contract deadline. No excuses.
