Liverpool’s Adrian, Joel Matip, and Thiago Alcantara are set to depart Anfield at the end of the season as their contracts expire, according to Football Insider.
The Premier League giants will not renew their contracts, deeming them not essential to the club’s future plans.
Adrian serves as the third-choice goalkeeper, supporting Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher. Joel Matip, a fan favorite at Anfield, has been sidelined since before Christmas due to a serious knee injury.
Thiago is considered the most talented of the trio but has been plagued by injuries, playing only five minutes this season.
The next Liverpool manager will not require the services of these three players, and other departures will be on hold until a new coach is appointed.
Liverpool fans will likely be saddened by Joel Matip’s departure the most, especially considering the circumstances.
The defender suffered a severe ACL injury in December, and it seems that his last appearance at Anfield was his final game for the club.
Matip joined Liverpool in 2016 and has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s best signings, especially considering he was acquired on a free transfer.
At 32, Matip would have faced competition for playing time at Liverpool next season, with the club boasting several young talents in his position and the indispensable Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds are also anticipated to recruit a new centre-back this summer, who will likely be Matip’s replacement as the outgoing fan favorite.
