Liverpool secured a victory over Crystal Palace to stay top of the league, but much of the post-match discussion among rival fans is likely to focus on Virgil van Dijk.

In one incident, van Dijk grabbed Marc Guehi’s arm inside the box, and as the Crystal Palace captain fell, he appealed for a penalty.

However, referee Simon Hooper ruled no foul, and VAR official David Coote upheld the decision. The Premier League Match Centre posted on X:

“The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by van Dijk on Guéhi is checked and confirmed by VAR – deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play.”

While the on-field appeals were minimal, this moment is sure to be a point of contention for rival fans throughout the weekend.
