La Liga has officially declared that Robert Lewandowski and Joao Cancelo will each serve a one-match suspension for accumulating five yellow cards, ensuring their participation in the upcoming match against Real Madrid.
Despite controversy surrounding the circumstances of their bookings in the recent Las Palmas match, where they received their fifth yellow cards, speculations suggesting they deliberately sought the bookings to be available for the Real Madrid game were dismissed.
Both players will only face a one-match ban as league officials found insufficient evidence to support the claim of intentional bookings.
Lewandowski received his yellow card for delaying his exit during a substitution, while Cancelo’s was for a tactical foul. In contrast, Barcelona will miss Inigo Martinez for their match against Cadiz due to a similar yellow card in the Las Palmas game, with no doubts regarding his intentions.
The decision regarding Lewandowski and Cancelo’s availability serves as a boost for their teams ahead of the crucial Real Madrid encounter, with Real Madrid currently leading the league standings before the anticipated match.
