Real Madrid is turning its attention to strengthening the midfield as preparations begin for the 2025/26 season, following their Champions League exit.

According to Cadena SER, Manchester City’s Rodri has emerged as the club’s top target to fill the gap left by Toni Kroos, who is expected to depart.

With their European campaign wrapped up, Los Blancos now have a clearer understanding of their finances, including revenue streams and player bonus commitments.

Additional funds are also anticipated from the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which could help ease financial constraints and support transfer activity.

Rodri, the 28-year-old Spanish international and Ballon d’Or contender, is considered the ideal signing by the club.

Although he remains a key figure at City and is under contract until 2027, Real Madrid believes a deal might be possible, potentially aided by Rodri’s friendship with Dani Carvajal from their national team days.

Still, there are concerns within the club regarding Rodri’s recovery from a recent serious knee injury, which could affect his performance.

While he remains the main target, Madrid is also evaluating other options, such as Martin Zubimendi.

However, internal doubts persist about Zubimendi’s fit, especially with Arsenal reportedly making strides in talks with the Real Sociedad midfielder.

As Real Madrid continues to shape its squad for next season, midfield reinforcements remain a priority—with Rodri as the standout choice to bolster their ranks.
