Mohamed Salah has disclosed that no one from Liverpool has approached him about renewing his contract, even after his significant role in the 3-0 victory against Manchester United.
The Egyptian forward, who has been a key player for Liverpool over the past eight seasons, admitted that he is treating this season as if it might be his last at Anfield.
Salah’s current contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, and there has been no indication from the club about renewal talks.
After scoring his 214th goal for Liverpool and contributing to a decisive win over Manchester United — a team he has now scored against 15 times — Salah openly discussed his uncertain future with Sky Sports.
“I had a good summer and spent a lot of time trying to stay positive,” he said. “As you know, it’s my last year at the club.
I just want to enjoy it and not dwell on it. I feel free to play football, and we’ll see what happens next year.”
Salah acknowledged that he is concentrating on making the most of his final year under contract with Liverpool before considering his future steps.
Previously, he mentioned wanting to fully enjoy his last season before deciding on his next move, noting that the club has not communicated with him about an extension.
His comments suggest that he may be coming to terms with the idea that this could be his final season with Liverpool.
Salah also hinted that the lack of contract discussions has made him think about the possibility of leaving at the end of the season. “Before the game, I thought this might be the last time I play here with Liverpool,” Salah said.
“No one from the club has spoken to me about a contract, so I’m just thinking: ‘Okay, I’m playing my last season,’ and we’ll see what happens at the end. It’s not up to me, but no one has talked to me from the club. We’ll see.”
In addition to scoring against Manchester United, Salah played a crucial role in setting up two goals for Luis Diaz, highlighting his impact on the pitch.
His goal against United was his third of the season, following goals against Ipswich Town and Brentford.
Meanwhile, other important Liverpool players, such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are also approaching the end of their contracts, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of some of Liverpool’s biggest stars.
