With reinforcements needed, the Daily Mail reports that United are keeping an eye on Olmo, who may be available for a free transfer in January.
Barcelona signed the Spanish international from RB Leipzig for £50 million last summer but have only registered him with La Liga until December 31 due to ongoing financial issues.
While Barcelona plans to take legal action to resolve the situation, Olmo could leave on a free transfer if not registered by the deadline.
His agent is reportedly in Manchester to discuss potential moves with interested English clubs, with United being one of the teams competing for his signature.
Potential Fit for United
United has been using a 3-4-2-1 formation under Amorim, but recent performances have been lacking, with defensive lapses and attacking inefficiency being significant concerns. Olmo could help address these issues by adding creativity and versatility in the final third.
The 26-year-old could form an effective partnership with Bruno Fernandes in an attacking midfield role or even play as a false nine, offering additional options alongside strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Former Leipzig manager Marco Rose has described Olmo as “outstanding,” and he would be a great addition on a free transfer.
Although injury concerns have impacted his recent seasons, signing him without a major transfer fee would minimize financial risks, making him a valuable asset for United as they look to strengthen for the second half of the season.
