Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided insight into why he believes Liverpool are now the frontrunners to clinch this season’s Premier League title.

With Jurgen Klopp’s team leading the table by two points, Guardiola acknowledges the importance of their position, considering the tight competition among the top three teams.

Guardiola’s reasoning is straightforward: whoever tops the table is deemed the favorite. Hence, he currently views Liverpool as the most probable candidates to emerge as champions by the end of the season.

In the recent match against Arsenal, City aimed for a crucial victory, but Arsenal’s solid defensive performance at the Etihad Stadium resulted in a draw.

Meanwhile, Liverpool capitalized on their rivals’ dropped points by securing a 2-1 win against Brighton earlier in the day.

As Jurgen Klopp prepares to depart Anfield at the season’s end, Liverpool is determined to conclude his tenure on a triumphant note. Guardiola is now backing Liverpool to secure the title under Klopp’s guidance.

“Always who is first is favorites, second is Arsenal and we are third,” stated Guardiola after the game, as quoted by the Guardian.

Despite criticism of Arsenal’s defensive approach, Guardiola refrained from commenting on their tactics, stating that it’s beyond his purview.

Although Liverpool’s last league triumph was four years ago, they are eager to repeat their success, particularly in front of their passionate supporters at Anfield.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the prospect of winning the title with a packed stadium of fans adds to the significance for the club.
