Liverpool have been long-time admirers of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to Fabrizio Romano, who downplayed recent transfer rumors linking the Reds with the England international.
Guehi has impressed at Palace, attracting interest from Newcastle United this summer, although a deal seems challenging.
In his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano mentioned that while Liverpool have an interest in Guehi, there’s nothing concrete at the moment.
Guehi would be an ideal signing to strengthen Liverpool’s defense and potentially serve as a long-term replacement for the aging Virgil van Dijk.
Romano stated, “Despite reports, there’s nothing concrete yet regarding Marc Guehi to Liverpool. The club has admired him since February, but no bids have been made so far.”
Regarding Newcastle, he noted, “Newcastle remains interested in Guehi, but with Palace having sold Joachim Andersen to Fulham, a deal won’t be easy.”
Given Palace’s recent loss of Michael Olise, they’ll likely be reluctant to part with another key player like Guehi. With the transfer deadline approaching, Palace may feel confident about retaining him.
Goncalo Inacio is also on Liverpool’s radar as a center-back option, but the club will need to act quickly if they want to strengthen their squad before the window closes.
Liverpool fans would certainly welcome a top defender like Guehi or Inacio, especially with no signings made so far this summer.
