Liverpool are preparing to start contract negotiations with a player at Anfield soon, according to reports.

Contract situations have recently been a major topic for Reds fans, with Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all seeing their contracts expire at the end of this season.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Liverpool’s management is actively working on a new deal for Ibrahima Konate, indicating that reaching an agreement with the French international should only be “a matter of time.” Another player in Arne Slot’s squad may also soon be in talks about his future.

Liverpool plan to discuss a contract renewal for Robertson

Football Insider reports that Liverpool still see Andy Robertson as the top choice for left-back, and with this in mind, the club intends to initiate contract talks with the Scottish captain next summer, a year before his current contract ends.

Anfield executives are keen to avoid the difficult situation they now face with Salah, Trent, and Van Dijk. At 30, Robertson is a part of the players’ leadership group alongside that trio and Alisson Becker, making him an influential figure in Liverpool’s dressing room.

Robertson remains a key player for Liverpool

While Robertson’s recent performances have drawn criticism, particularly after a challenging match against Arsenal in late October, his value to Liverpool shouldn’t be underestimated. Steven Gerrard once labeled him “world-class,” reflecting his standing.

If Liverpool were to lose Salah, Trent, or Van Dijk, Robertson’s presence would help maintain leadership continuity in the squad.

At 30, he still has much to offer Liverpool, and his weekly salary of £160,000—the fourth-highest at the club (per Capology)—is manageable for a club of Liverpool’s resources.

As long as Robertson continues to play regularly under Slot, he would likely be content to stay at Liverpool. Ideally, future contract talks with him can be handled more smoothly than the ongoing discussions with players in shirt numbers 4, 11, and 66.

Despite heavy speculation, Liverpool have opted not to move forward with a potential £85 million deal for Alexander Isak. Instead, the club has shifted its transfer focus and funds toward other priority targets who are considered more suited to Arne Slot’s tactical plans.
