Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Real Madrid no longer considered serious contenders.
The England international’s contract at Selhurst Park is nearing its end, making him a free agent next summer. Despite missing out on him last year, Liverpool have kept close tabs on his situation and remain the frontrunners for his signature.
According to AS, Real Madrid have pulled out of the chase due to Guehi’s wage demands, leaving a move to Spain off the table. Meanwhile, Liverpool are believed to be in a strong position, with the 25-year-old said to favour a switch to Anfield.
The Reds nearly signed him last summer before Crystal Palace blocked the move, but this time the transfer appears much more likely to happen. Bayern Munich have also shown interest, though Liverpool remain in control of the pursuit.
AS further reports that Real Madrid have shifted their focus to other defensive options, including Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, who is entering the final stretch of his deal.
Liverpool are keen to renew Konaté’s contract, but if he leaves on a free, Guehi would be seen as an ideal replacement — a proven Premier League performer ready to step into the backline seamlessly.
