It’s game over for Liverpool as two of their stars were injured in training today, just days before the new season begins. They are expected to be out for five months.

The season hasn’t even begun, yet injuries are already disrupting Liverpool’s plans. Jurgen Klopp’s final year at the club was marred by a string of injuries to key players, and now one player who benefited from those absences finds himself on the other side of the equation.

According to LFC journalist David Lynch in his Substack column on Thursday, Jayden Danns will be out until October due to a back injury. This issue kept him from participating in Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the USA.

Liverpool had planned to loan out the 18-year-old for the 2024/25 season, but those plans have been derailed by this unfortunate setback.

The timing of the injury couldn’t have been worse for Danns. Not only did he miss the chance to impress Arne Slot during pre-season, but his hopes of gaining regular first-team minutes on loan have also been dashed.

The teenager made his debut for Liverpool in February, taking advantage of an injury crisis in the squad. In a memorable week, he played in the Carabao Cup final win, scored twice in an FA Cup victory over Southampton, and seemed poised for more opportunities.

Had he been fit, Danns would likely have seen significant playing time in the U.S., where the new head coach has been giving chances to several young players. Now, he’ll be lamenting his bad luck.

All we can do is hope for a smooth recovery for Danns. When the winter transfer window opens, he might still secure a loan move where he can continue to develop and showcase his potential at Liverpool.
