Richard Keys has urged Liverpool to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold, criticizing the right-back for his lackluster performance against Manchester United on Sunday.

In the 2-2 draw at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold struggled, falling short in key moments and contributing to a result that was surprising given Liverpool’s strong form and United’s recent struggles.

The match exposed some of Liverpool’s vulnerabilities, with Alexander-Arnold’s performance drawing particular criticism.

Keys suggested that the game highlighted Alexander-Arnold’s limitations at Liverpool and proposed a move to Real Madrid as a better fit for his skill set.

He argued that with Alexander-Arnold’s contract nearing its expiration and Madrid reportedly offering £20 million, Liverpool should seize the opportunity and end the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Writing in his blog, Keys remarked, *“His performance makes it clear that Liverpool should accept Madrid’s £20m and resolve the transfer saga.

He’s leaving anyway, so why drag it out? Liverpool’s season won’t depend on an average defender staying or going.”*

While Keys acknowledged Alexander-Arnold’s talent, he emphasized that his strengths lie in areas other than defending, making Real Madrid a more suitable destination. He also described the ongoing contract negotiations as a potential distraction for Liverpool.

Despite Keys’ perspective, Liverpool fans are likely to disagree, as the club reportedly remains keen on extending Alexander-Arnold’s contract and retaining one of their most influential players.
