Switzerland’s NYON The European soccer organization announced on Friday that Barcelona’s appeal against being fined 500,000 euros ($537,000) for falsifying income in violation of financial monitoring regulations was unsuccessful.

After Barcelona reported income in 2022 from the “disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations,” UEFA’s club finance panel levied the sanction in July.

Amid financial difficulties for the current Spanish champion, UEFA has not disclosed the specifics of the revenue that was included in its records.

In June 2022, Barcelona reached an agreement worth 207 million euros ($222 million) with Sixth Street, an investment business, for 10% of the revenue generated by its domestic broadcast rights over a 25-year period.

Due to their financial problems, Barcelona participated in the unsuccessful European Super League’s debut in 2021, which resulted in Lionel Messi’s reluctance to leave the team later that year and their inability to get him back for this season when he wanted to. Instead, Messi signed with Inter Miami.
