It’s been a quiet summer for Liverpool in terms of new signings, but as the transfer window nears its end, activity seems to be picking up—mainly with potential departures, including that of Luis Diaz.

Taking to X, Pipe Sierra reported (translated): “Barcelona’s interest in Luis Díaz is genuine. They renewed their interest last week and are trying to make an offer, but they are exploring ‘financial engineering’ to do so.

Liverpool had discussions about renewing his contract, which runs until 2027, but nothing concrete has been agreed.”

With previous reports suggesting Manchester City’s interest in our winger, a move to Barcelona might be more palatable for fans if Diaz were to leave during this window.

The Colombian international, who scored twice in our final pre-season friendly, seems poised to play a key role for the team this season, making the possibility of his departure somewhat surprising.

However, Liverpool’s left-wing position is well-stocked with players like Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez, which might lead Arne Slot to feel confident in his options.

Selling Diaz could free up funds for a like-for-like replacement or provide cover for Mo Salah, who is the only natural choice on the right wing.

It remains uncertain whether Barcelona can afford the fee required to part ways with the 27-year-old, but they may still attempt to challenge Liverpool’s resolve.

As the transfer window closes, it becomes increasingly difficult to find a suitable replacement or new signing at a reasonable price.
