Gareth Southgate has stated he is “completely comfortable” with his future, amidst rumors linking him to Manchester United after Euro 2024.

Despite uncertainty surrounding Erik ten Hag’s position, the England manager has dismissed the possibility of any discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS management before the tournament.

Southgate is reportedly well-regarded by the new leadership at Old Trafford and would be a strong candidate to replace Ten Hag. However, the 58-year-old remains committed to the national team.

England are currently favorites for Euro 2024, led by Southgate and featuring top players like Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Declan Rice. These players recognize this could be their manager’s final opportunity to secure a major trophy.

Southgate’s contract ends this year, and while his future is uncertain, the FA is expected to push for a renewal regardless of the tournament’s outcome. Although a return to club management is possible, Southgate is focused on the short term.

In an interview with GQ, Southgate reflected on his career: “When I was 23 as a player, I would have been worried about that. When I was 37 and a young manager, I would have been concerned about it. But I’m 53 now and quite comfortable about it, since life will continue on whatever,” according to the Express via GQ.

He added, “I don’t think it would be appropriate to make a decision before a competition. I remember Fabio (Capello) signing a new deal before the 2010 World Cup, and everyone questioned it. He should be proving himself during the competition.

“If I were two years into the job, I might feel differently. But after eight years, my focus is on one thing: how can I get this squad to win?”

Southgate’s current situation may reduce the likelihood of moving to United, as INEOS is unlikely to wait until after the Euros if they plan to replace Ten Hag, whose fate is to be decided this week.

However, Southgate’s primary focus is on leading England to success at Euro 2024, aware that any victory could be attributed to their preparation, including nutrition.

“Meals are crucial,” he said. “They recharge you and are also sociable. It’s like with my kids: anytime I’m with them, I want to eat as much as possible because that’s where you really get to see how they’re doing.

“That said, if you’ve ever gone on a family vacation for any length of time, there are a lot of people who may get on each other’s nerves after a while, so we are aware of that.”
