A recent report reveals that David de Gea turned down an offer to join a Premier League club during the January transfer window.
The Spanish goalkeeper, who left Manchester United last summer after 12 years, remains without a team. While there have been links to a move to Saudi Arabia, De Gea has yet to finalize any deal.
Nottingham Forest approached the 33-year-old with an offer for him to play regular football with them until the end of the season. However, De Gea declined their short-term proposal, choosing to explore other opportunities instead.
Forest also inquired about Aaron Ramsdale’s availability from Arsenal. Ramsdale, who lost his starting spot to David Raya, was considered as a potential signing before Forest secured Matz Sels from Strasbourg.
Sels joined Forest in a £5.1 million deal on deadline day, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract. His arrival adds to Forest’s goalkeeping options, which already include Matt Turner, Wayne Hennessey, and Odysseas Vlachodimos.
With De Gea rejecting Forest’s offer, he remains on the hunt for a new club. As a free agent, he can still sign with a team outside of the transfer window.
During his Manchester United career, De Gea made 545 appearances across all competitions and was instrumental in the club’s successes.
He also earned 45 caps for the Spanish national team. Given his extensive experience and proven abilities, De Gea remains a highly attractive option for clubs seeking a seasoned goalkeeper.
