💔 James Milner has opened up about his final chat with Diogo Jota the night before his tragic passing:
🗣️ “It wasn’t anything major, just the usual check-in, asking each other how things were going.
Then someone asked me, ‘Is it true?’ and at that point, I didn’t know. I had to message someone at Liverpool to find out… and it was just devastating. There haven’t been many harder days than that.
I loved him, truly. Loved him as a player, but even more as a teammate and a friend. Carlos (Baleba) wanted to change his number, so when the No. 20 became free, it felt right for me to take it. Every time I pull that shirt on, I’ll think of him.
We only shared three seasons at Liverpool, and on paper, we didn’t have much in common — different backgrounds, different ages — but we clicked right away.
Maybe because we were both stubborn. People say I’m stubborn, but Jots could match me easily.
He was incredible — one of my favorite teammates I’ve ever had. Always joking, always full of life, always lifting the dressing room.
He was the kind of guy who could sit next to anyone and instantly connect. Just a special, special person.” ❤️
