Liverpool are reportedly determined to bring a Premier League winger to Anfield this summer.
Anthony Gordon, formerly of Everton and now with Newcastle, was linked to a surprising transfer back to Merseyside weeks ago, with his agent pushing for a deal (The Telegraph).
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool officials have resumed negotiations with Newcastle regarding the England international.
However, Newcastle has reiterated that the 23-year-old is not for sale and aims to extend his contract, which currently lasts for two more years, until 2029.
Newcastle’s firm stance is understandable, given Gordon’s impressive record of 12 goals and 11 assists last season and praise from teammate Bruno Guimaraes.
Despite Liverpool’s interest, Newcastle is not willing to sell to a Premier League rival.
Liverpool’s persistence in pursuing Gordon indicates strong interest from Anfield chiefs, despite having players like Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo for the left flank.
Gordon could be seen as a right-sided alternative to Mo Salah, given his experience on that side.
Newcastle’s reluctance to sell means Liverpool would need to make a substantial offer to sway the St James’ Park hierarchy.
While this transfer seems challenging, it reflects Liverpool’s determination and the new head coach’s desire to bring Gordon to Anfield.
