As Richard Hughes hinted during his first media address as Liverpool’s sporting director earlier this month, transfer activity is intensifying for the Reds as July ends and August begins.
Earlier today, it was revealed that Liverpool had agreed on a deal with Newcastle in June to sign Anthony Gordon and send Joe Gomez in exchange.
However, the move fell through when Newcastle withdrew after resolving their PSR concerns.

In an article for the Liverpool Echo, Ian Doyle noted that Liverpool could still sign the former Everton winger in the next 30 days, as both the player’s desire and the club’s interest remain strong.
Doyle also mentioned that with the futures of Mo Salah and Luis Diaz uncertain, signing the 23-year-old could help mitigate potential departures.
He shared a link to his piece on X, highlighting that Liverpool “have shown their hand regarding Anthony Gordon – and it’s a transfer that is beginning to make sense.”
It is clear that Liverpool is very interested in Gordon, and the player is also keen on the move. However, Newcastle, now less pressured by PSR concerns, would likely demand a high fee for the England international.
Despite Newcastle’s previous offer to sell Gordon in June to raise funds, they might still be willing to negotiate if they receive an acceptable bid.
Doyle pointed out that Arne Slot currently has a surplus of left-sided wingers, so there’s no urgent need for another. However, if Diaz were to leave, there would be a need to strengthen that position.
Gordon’s status as a lifelong LFC fan could facilitate a move to Anfield, and his 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League last season suggest he could be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s attack.
The summer transfer window has been unusually quiet for the Reds so far, but with August approaching, Hughes might accelerate efforts as the transfer deadline looms.
