Former Liverpool winger Ryan Kent is expected to join Leeds United in January after his contract with Fenerbahce was terminated earlier this month.
Kent moved to Turkey in 2023 but struggled there, making only eight league appearances last season.
Under new manager Jose Mourinho, the 27-year-old was excluded from all league matchday squads this season, leading to his departure from the club.
With his future now uncertain, Kent is unsure where he’ll play next. Former England international Carlton Palmer shared with Football League World that Leeds United, long interested in Kent since his Rangers days, could finally make a move for him.
“Reports suggest Leyton Orient may also be considering a surprising move for Kent on a free transfer,” Palmer stated. “Leeds United are also reportedly interested in him.”
Palmer added that while caution is needed with free agents, Kent could be a solid option for Leeds and an ambitious acquisition for Leyton Orient.
There is also rumored interest from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, where Kent’s free-agent status makes him an attractive prospect.
A move to Leeds in January could be a calculated risk, as Kent’s qualities—displayed during his time at Rangers—might help Leeds in their push for Premier League promotion.
Although he came through Liverpool’s academy and made only one appearance for the senior team, he now has the chance to return to England and prove himself in the Championship.
