Football pundit Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold may leave the club to join Real Madrid.
The English defender, now in the final year of his contract at Anfield, has been consistently linked with a move to the La Liga giants.
Carragher noted Alexander-Arnold’s ambition to win the Ballon d’Or, suggesting that such a goal might only be attainable with a club like Real Madrid.
He told Sky Sports, “Ballon d’Or winners often play for Real Madrid or Barcelona — that’s where the world’s top players go.”
Carragher found it surprising that Alexander-Arnold, when asked about his ultimate ambition, chose the Ballon d’Or over the Champions League or World Cup, as football is generally viewed as a team sport.
Nonetheless, Carragher acknowledged Alexander-Arnold’s unique skills and significant career aspirations.
While Carragher believes key Liverpool players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah may stay, he sees Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid as more likely if contract issues persist.
He also noted that Alexander-Arnold’s friendship with Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham, along with the club’s continuous Champions League pursuits, could make Madrid an attractive option.
Liverpool also face uncertainty over the futures of Salah and Van Dijk, but Alexander-Arnold’s unique talent as a versatile, attack-minded right-back makes him especially difficult to replace in the current market.
