Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has made a major claim about the potential consequences facing his former club amid the Premier League’s financial case.
Mills spent five years with Manchester City during his playing career before eventually moving on from the club. He has now spoken about the possible impact of any punishment that could be imposed following the long-running financial proceedings.
According to Mills, a sufficiently severe sporting sanction could have a significant effect on Manchester City’s ability to compete for the Premier League title.
He has suggested that the consequences could potentially prevent City from winning the league for as long as nine years.
The claim comes at a time when Manchester City’s financial case remains a major talking point in English football. An independent commission has reached findings on the charges, but the legal process has not necessarily reached its final stage.
Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and have maintained their position throughout the proceedings. Any eventual punishment would depend on the relevant disciplinary and appeal processes.
Mills’ comments therefore represent his assessment of what the potential consequences could mean for Manchester City rather than a confirmed punishment.
With the case continuing to develop, attention remains focused on what sanctions could ultimately be imposed and how they might affect City’s future in English football.
