“Zero completed dribbles and seven duels lost” — player faces uphill battle to convince Rosenior after Charlton display despite victory

Liam Rosenior enjoyed a positive start to life as Chelsea head coach with a convincing win over Charlton, although Alejandro Garnacho failed to make much of an impact.

Chelsea ran out 5-1 winners at The Valley in an FA Cup third-round tie that had the potential to be tricky. The goals were shared among five different players, with Jorrel Hato’s effort the pick of the bunch.

Rosenior made more alterations to his starting XI than many expected after the defeat to Fulham. Garnacho was handed his first start in three games, lining up on the left after sitting out the matches against Manchester City and Fulham.

The former Manchester United winger struggled to impose himself, especially in the first half. He showed some improvement after the break, but his overall contribution was still below the required level.

A new manager brings a clean slate, and while Garnacho featured regularly under Enzo Maresca, his showing here suggested he still has work to do to convince Rosenior.

Statistics from FotMob painted a worrying picture: he completed no dribbles, failed to register a shot on target, and was beaten in seven physical duels.

The piece ends by questioning how Rosenior can unlock the best from Garnacho, who arrived from Manchester United for around £40 million in the summer but has yet to find consistent form.
