Remarkably, the 32-year-old has not made an official appearance for the Reds since May of this year. He had surgery over the summer to fix a persistent hip problem. Thiago has missed 82 games for Liverpool since moving to Anfield, mostly because of illnesses, injuries, and general fitness issues.
Thiago’s contract with Liverpool is slated to expire in the summer of 2024, which heightens the interest. As a result, beginning January 2024, interested parties may approach him about a free transfer. Previous reports claimed that despite Klopp’s fervent wish to keep the 32-year-old at the club, the Liverpool leadership was reluctant to extend Thiago’s contract, partly because of his history of injuries.
Thiago has previously received accolades from Klopp, who said, “There aren’t five million players on the earth like him. There are very few people who have the technical ability to not only perceive something before everybody else, but also actually move the ball there as well.
Although it is unclear whether Barcelona or other interested parties will pursue Thiago, the Catalan powerhouses may be more likely to do so if he becomes a free agency.
