Bayern Struggles to Find Left-Wing Reinforcements as Top Targets Slip Away

Things aren’t looking promising for FC Bayern when it comes to strengthening their winger options this summer.

With Leroy Sané set to leave on a free transfer to Galatasaray, the German champions need to bolster their left flank. However, their primary targets seem to be slipping out of reach.

Nico Williams and Jamie Gittens, two players on Bayern’s shortlist, now appear likely to join rival clubs instead. Chelsea and Barcelona have made concrete moves for Gittens and Williams respectively, with sources confirming both are close to permanent deals.

Gittens has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea under Enzo Maresca, while Barcelona is confident about registering Nico Williams despite ongoing financial issues.

This is supported by a €40m investment from Libero Football Finance earmarked for the 2025/26 season.

Bayern’s Shift Toward Liverpool Wingers Gakpo and Diaz

With quality options becoming scarce, Bayern are now turning their attention to the Premier League. Liverpool’s winger lineup has caught the eye of Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl.

According to Bundesliga insider Christian Falk, Cody Gakpo is a particular favorite of Eberl. Luis Diaz is also being considered as a potential target.

“Eberl should already be exploring alternative wing options. Gakpo is reportedly a personal favorite,” Falk revealed. “Initial talks took place, but recent contact with the player’s agents has stalled — though that could change quickly. Diaz also remains on Bayern’s radar.”

Together, Gakpo and Diaz contributed 35 goals and 15 assists last season, making them attractive targets for Bayern’s recruitment team.

Gakpo’s impressive goal contributions for Liverpool under Arne Slot make him a highly appealing prospect. The chance for more regular first-team football could entice him to consider a move — but the asking price could be a hurdle.

Gakpo has three years left on his contract until 2028 and remains a key player for Liverpool. The club is unlikely to part ways with him easily, especially without the player’s desire to leave or a substantial transfer offer.
