Manchester United’s interest in Joan Garcia signals a clear shift in strategy under Rúben Amorim and INEOS—one that could mark the end of the road for André Onana at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are reportedly making a serious move to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia this summer.

After an impressive La Liga season, the 24-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Europe, having showcased excellent reflexes, calmness under pressure, and keeping eight clean sheets in 38 league appearances.

Arsenal are also monitoring Garcia, but their inability to guarantee a starting spot may work against them. In contrast, United seem ready for a change in goal, with André Onana coming under intense scrutiny for inconsistent performances.

His high-profile errors, especially in crucial games like the Europa League final, have raised concerns within the club.

According to CaughtOffside, Garcia has become a serious candidate to replace Onana. United are reportedly planning to begin formal negotiations soon as they continue reshaping the squad ahead of the new season.

Despite being under contract with Espanyol until 2028, Garcia is available for €25 million—the value of his release clause.

Barcelona are currently seen as favorites to land him, but Garcia hasn’t made any commitments, leaving United with a chance to swoop in late. Behind the scenes, the club is said to be working aggressively to push the deal forward.

Considering United paid €50 million for Onana in 2023, Garcia’s €25 million price tag could represent excellent value—especially if he becomes the first-choice goalkeeper under new manager Rúben Amorim.

Onana’s recent exclusion from matchday squads, along with growing speculation about a move to the Saudi Pro League, points to a possible shift in United’s goalkeeping plans—and Joan Garcia may well be the answer.
