Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager, has announced his retirement from coaching, though he hinted that a future return might be possible.

At 57, Klopp has chosen to step away from the sport, ending his nine-year tenure with Liverpool at the close of the 2023/24 season.

Initially, many believed Klopp would take a one-year break before possibly returning to coaching. However, recent comments suggest his retirement might be more definitive than anticipated.

While he hasn’t completely ruled out a comeback, Klopp has indicated that he might never coach again, leaving his future in the sport uncertain.

“As of today, I’m done as a coach. It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision but a considered choice. I’ve also managed some of the best clubs in the world,” he said at a coaching congress in Germany, according to Kicker.

“Whether I’d coach again, I’d say no for now. But maybe we can revisit this in a few months.”

“I’m still motivated to work in football, to assist others with my experience and connections. We’ll see what happens.”

Klopp had been linked to the vacant English head coach position but stated, “it would be the biggest loss of face in football history” if he reversed his decision to take a break.
