Liverpool fans were left outraged after a controversial penalty decision went against them during Saturday’s home clash with Fulham.

The frustration began early in the match when Issa Diop and Andreas Pereira made aggressive challenges on Andy Robertson and Ryan Gravenberch.

Pereira then gave Fulham the lead with an acrobatic finish, while Robertson was sent off after a poor touch allowed Harry Wilson to break through on goal.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Liverpool equalized early in the second half through Cody Gakpo. However, the Reds believed they deserved a penalty shortly after.

As Gakpo cut in from the left, Joe Gomez made an overlapping run but was taken out by Kenny Tete in a heavy collision.

While Tete appeared to be blocking Gakpo’s shot, his clash with Gomez looked like a foul. The incident left Gomez injured and forced his substitution for Timothy Castagne.

To Liverpool’s dismay, both the referee and VAR dismissed penalty appeals, sparking fury among fans. One supporter remarked, “VAR needs accountability for this shambles.

Fulham should have been down to ten men and conceded a penalty.” Another questioned, “Is VAR on strike? That was a clear penalty.”

The controversy became even more significant when Rodrigo Munoz restored Fulham’s lead in the 76th minute following a second assist from Antonee Robinson.

Liverpool seemed destined for their first loss since the Nottingham Forest defeat, but a late equalizer from Diogo Jota salvaged a dramatic 2-2 draw for Arne Slot’s side.
