Pep Guardiola’s team has now edged one point ahead of Arsenal after clinching three points in the capital, positioning themselves as frontrunners for the title once again.
Amidst this success, City’s ongoing legal battle regarding 115 charges for alleged financial rule breaches, announced in February 2023, continues to linger. The club vehemently denies any wrongdoing.
Outlined below are the breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules against City:
– 54 charges for failure to provide accurate financial information from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
– 14 charges for failure to provide accurate details of player and manager payments from 2009-10 to 2017-18.
– 5 charges for failure to comply with UEFA’s rules, including Financial Fair Play (FFP) from 2013-14 to 2017-18.
– 7 charges for breaching Premier League’s PSR rules from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
– 35 charges for failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 to February 2023.
Rival supporters await a final verdict on potential punishment for City, but the timing of an outcome remains uncertain.
Sky News’ sports correspondent, Rob Harris, recently indicated: “The Premier League has suggested that a hearing is imminent in the next few months.”
Premier League CEO Richard Masters previously disclosed that a date for City’s case hearing has been set for the “near future.”
Addressing concerns about the prolonged duration of the probe, Masters emphasized the complexity of the charges and clarified that different cases had varied timelines for resolution.
If found guilty, City could face significant fines, points deductions, expulsion from the Premier League, or even title stripping.
