Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has disclosed that the club is examining the recurring fitness problems of goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who suffered another setback just before the international break.
Alisson, 32, was forced off during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace and is expected to be sidelined until after the November international break due to a hamstring injury.
This is a significant setback for Slot, as Alisson is a key player both on and off the field.
Slot confirmed that Liverpool are investigating why Alisson, given his position, has been experiencing so many injuries, as Caoimhin Kelleher prepares to step in for the Brazilian in the coming weeks.
The coach noted that while muscle injuries are rare for goalkeepers, they are not unheard of, referencing a similar issue with a goalkeeper at Feyenoord.
Alisson’s injury history is concerning, particularly with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join Liverpool next summer.
Last season, the Brazilian missed 10 league matches due to similar issues and 19 in total, including Brazil fixtures.
He was also absent for 10 games in the 2020/21 season and 18 during the 2019/20 season when Liverpool won the Premier League.
Given Alisson’s crucial role, the club is committed to getting to the root of the problem.
