After suffering an injury, Mason Mount was substituted at halftime during Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton.
United lost 2-1 on the south coast, with Brighton securing the win through Joao Pedro’s header in the 95th minute.
Mount’s injury, which led to his replacement by Joshua Zirkzee after the break, added to United’s disappointing result.
Mount, who joined from Chelsea for £55 million, made only 20 appearances last season due to injury.
Despite starting this season fully fit, the 25-year-old’s injury was a concern, as Erik ten Hag revealed in his post-match press conference.
When asked why Mount was taken off, Ten Hag said, “He mentioned an issue, and I didn’t want to take any risks. I’m not sure how serious it is yet.”
However, Ten Hag expressed confidence in his substitutes, noting that Zirkzee made a strong impact after coming on.
Mount’s availability for United’s next match against Liverpool at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Brighton took a 1-0 lead at halftime through Danny Welbeck’s close-range finish from Kaoru Mitoma’s cross, which might have influenced Ten Hag’s decision to make changes.
Zirkzee, who scored in the season opener against Fulham, was brought on and helped United equalize in the second half.
