The former Premier League club has been docked points three times this year. Reading lost three points because they did not deposit enough money into an account to fulfill the club’s monthly payroll.
The EFL reportedly advised Royals owner Dai Yongge to deposit 125% of the pay bill into a designated account by Tuesday in August, according to the BBC. When that didn’t happen, the suspension of points reduction was immediate.
Reading has already lost four points this season, so this is not the first time they have been docked points. For making salary payments late in August, the Royals lost a point.
This comes after they lost six points in April for breaking the profit and sustainability rules, which helped to send them from the Championship to League One.
Since Chinese entrepreneur Dai is still “committed” to the Royals and is actively looking for new investors to support the club’s financial stability, the EFL has stated that they will continue to penalize Reading as long as they violate the rules.
Reading, who only joined the Premier League ten years ago, has serious concerns about this, and any additional point deductions might endanger their season.
