This week, reports emerging from Germany suggested that Bayern Munich could be considering a return to their former manager, Pep Guardiola, as they seek a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

Following the decision to part ways with Tuchel at the end of the season, interest in Xabi Alonso has waned, and connections to Manchester United’s manager, Erik Ten Hag, have become less credible with each defeat at Old Trafford.

Consequently, a rumor surfaced in Kicker on Monday suggesting that Guardiola’s former club, Bayern Munich, might be interested in rehiring him this summer.

However, the same source also acknowledged that Guardiola currently has no plans to depart from Manchester City.

Guardiola will have completed nine years with City by the time his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

He has previously emphasized his commitment to honoring contracts and stated that he would not leave a club before the contract’s expiration unless circumstances compelled him to do so.

Guardiola firmly declared, “I am not leaving this seat,” during his initial news conference following the charges’ announcement last year. He also emphasized the importance of allowing City to address their situation appropriately.

Guardiola reaffirmed this stance earlier this season, indicating that he would be more inclined to remain at City even if they were relegated from the top division than if they were to repeat as Champions League winners.

He emphasized the need to wait for the outcome of proceedings before contemplating his future.

After guiding City to a treble last season, Guardiola discussed his future, noting that his feelings had not changed since winning the Champions League.

He hinted at a possible contract extension, expressing his satisfaction with the club’s achievements and indicating a willingness to continue if the hierarchy and board were satisfied.

As the season progressed, Guardiola made further indications about his intentions to stay, particularly as the Premier League decision looms.

Guardiola’s contract negotiations may also be influenced by the Premier League’s impending decision. Premier League CEO Richard Masters described the decision as “soon,” suggesting that it could affect Guardiola’s contract discussions.

While it remains unclear whether Guardiola would consider rejoining Bayern after leaving City, he recently expressed interest in managing a national team competing in major tournaments like the European Championship or the World Cup.

Guardiola articulated his desire to experience coaching at such international competitions, expressing openness to the opportunity should it arise.
