At the Amex Stadium, Manchester United suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season against Brighton.

The match turned in Brighton’s favor after Harry Maguire made an error, allowing Danny Welbeck to score against his former club, nearly a decade after leaving Old Trafford.

Earlier in the game, with the score still level, Amad missed a golden opportunity. Joshua Zirkzee came on at halftime, replacing Mason Mount, entering the match earlier than he did in his debut.

Amad eventually equalized around the 60th minute. However, what seemed like a sure goal by Alejandro Garnacho to give United a 2-1 lead was disallowed due to Zirkzee being offside and deflecting Garnacho’s shot.

Brighton secured the victory in the 94th minute when Joao Pedro was left unmarked and headed in the decisive goal.

Here are the player ratings:

Andre Onana

Made a brilliant pass to set up Diogo Dalot for a chance and managed to escape a risky situation with a lunge in his own third. Rating: 6.

Noussair Mazraoui

Performed well until he was caught out for Welbeck’s opening goal. Despite this mistake, he had another solid performance against tough opponents. Rating: 5.

Harry Maguire

Should have dealt with Joao Pedro’s cross, which eventually led to Welbeck’s goal. He did not finish the full 90 minutes as Matthijs de Ligt replaced him. Rating: 5.

Lisandro Martinez

Was active in the attack but went missing for the goal, despite being the closest to Welbeck. His absence contributed to the space that allowed James Milner to make it 1-0. Rating: 6.

Diogo Dalot

Delivered a precise cross that Amad failed to capitalize on and also cleared the ball off the line from Milner. Rating: 7.

Casemiro

Started the game well but his performance declined, becoming a defensive concern once again. He did improve slightly in the second half. Rating: 5.

Kobbie Mainoo

Looked fatigued, likely due to a lack of rest over the past nine months. Might have been substituted earlier if United had more options in midfield. Rating: 5.

Amad

Failed to convert a great chance from Dalot’s cross and wasted a breakaway with a poor pass. However, he made amends by scoring United’s only goal. Rating: 5.
