Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez remains fully committed to the Reds despite transfer rumors surrounding his future, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
In an exclusive statement for CaughtOffside’s Daily Briefing column, Romano addressed recent speculation about Nunez potentially moving to Atletico Madrid.
He also dismissed reports linking Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes as a possible replacement for the Uruguayan at Anfield.
Nunez has faced criticism during his time at Liverpool, with some fans expressing disappointment over his lack of progress and limited impact. This has led to him falling down the pecking order since Arne Slot became manager.
However, Nunez appears fully focused on contributing to Liverpool, making the rumors of a move to Atletico Madrid unlikely, especially since the La Liga side recently spent a significant amount on signing Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.
Romano downplayed the transfer speculation, saying, “It’s hard to even comment on the Rodrygo and Darwin Nunez rumors. Nunez to Atletico, Rodrygo to Liverpool… trust me, there’s nothing happening.
Nunez is focused on Liverpool, and Atletico just invested €75m plus add-ons on Julian Alvarez. Rodrygo also extended his contract with Real Madrid less than a year ago and is focused on the club.”
While some Liverpool fans might feel Rodrygo would be an upgrade over Nunez, it’s clear that no moves are in the works at this time.
Nonetheless, concerns remain over Nunez’s performance, and the club may need to consider other options if he doesn’t improve soon.
