Scott McTominay has shared his thoughts on leaving Manchester United and his successful start at Napoli, three months after making the move to Italy.
The Scotland international, who had been with United since he was five and made 255 senior appearances, joined Napoli in a £25.7 million transfer last summer.
While McTominay has quickly made his mark in Serie A, his departure was somewhat reluctant for former manager Erik ten Hag, who acknowledged that the move was necessary due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
In an interview with *The Times*, McTominay reflected on his decision to leave his childhood club, noting he has no regrets about the change.
“No Regrets”
“It was a big decision, no doubt,” McTominay said. “A huge decision for me and my family. At times like that, you have to ask yourself, ‘Do I want to do it?’ and if the answer is yes, you just go for it. I don’t look back.”
“I’ve never regretted anything in my life or career, and I continue with that mindset. I want to be successful, and I’ll push myself to be the best I can, both as a footballer and a person.”
Success in Italy
McTominay has settled into life at Napoli, with ten appearances and three goals already this season. He credits his smooth transition to his focus on football and avoiding distractions.
“I don’t follow newspapers or social media,” he explained. “The past is behind me. I’m focused on enjoying my football and helping my team move up the table.”

The midfielder also expressed gratitude for the support he’s received in his new environment.
“I have amazing people in my life who help me a lot. My family, friends, and girlfriend make everything easier. Settling abroad isn’t easy, but the Italian people have been great, helping with everything from finding a house to transportation. I’m thankful for all their support.”

McTominay’s positive mindset and determination have ensured his success in Napoli’s midfield, as he continues to shine in his new role. Though his time at United has come to an end, it’s clear that he’s thriving in Italy.
