Manchester United Boss Hints at €100M Transfer Pursuit—But Only if Europa League is Won

Rúben Amorim has confirmed that Manchester United will only pursue his top transfer target—a forward valued at £100 million—if the team secures Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League.

In a candid interview, Amorim expressed optimism over the potential deal:

> “I’m happy because I thought this signing wasn’t possible. He’s my number one target this season, and the club has guaranteed they’ll go for him—regardless of the cost—if we win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.”

Though he didn’t mention the player by name, strong reports suggest that Sporting CP’s star striker, Viktor Gyökeres, is the man in question.

The Swedish forward has been on fire under Amorim this season, notching 23 goals and four assists in just 18 appearances, justifying his €100 million release clause.

United are reportedly prepared to invest heavily this summer, with a budget of around €180 million earmarked to bolster the squad. Alongside Gyökeres, Everton’s rising defensive star Jarrad Branthwaite is also on their radar.

But both moves hinge on Champions League qualification, which would bring a financial boost of up to £80 million from prize money, broadcasting rights, and ticket sales.

The club’s stance highlights a clear shift: major investments will only be made if on-pitch success warrants it.

Amorim’s rebuild is being driven by results, smart spending, and a focus on long-term strategy. Should the plan pay off, Gyökeres could be the powerful, dynamic forward to lead the new era at Old Trafford.

The question remains: if United fall short in Europe, should they still go all in for Gyökeres—or turn their attention to alternative attacking targets?
