Mason Greenwood will return to Football Manager following the conclusion of his loan at Getafe.
- In February 2022, Greenwood was sentenced to prison, and he was afterwards prohibited from using the Football Manager program.
- Earlier this year, it was decided to drop all rape and assault allegations against the striker.
- Since then, Getafe has acquired the striker on loan.
Mason Greenwood will be making a comeback in Football Manager 2024, according to Sports Interactive, after Manchester United ended their investigation into the striker.
Greenwood was kicked out of Football Manager following his imprisonment in February 2022. However, the striker’s rape and sexual assault charges were later dismissed, and United then launched its own investigation into the claims.
Greenwood was declared innocent of all accusations by United in the summer, putting a stop to their legal proceedings while also admitting that the striker would need to leave Old Trafford in order to relaunch his football career.
Greenwood discussed taking a loan to the Italian team Atalanta, but in the end he chose to sign a one-year deal with the La Liga team Getafe.
When the newest version of Football Manager is published later this year, Greenwood is anticipated to make a return. He has since started playing football again, and neither an internal nor an external investigation into his actions has been done.
According to a Sports Interactive spokesman who spoke with The Athletic, “Players or officials serving indefinite suspensions from football, for any reason, are removed from Football Manager at the earliest opportunity.”Once any bans or restrictions on their playing time have been lifted, the player or official will be allowed to rejoin the game at the time of the following regularly scheduled update.
Getafe has faced criticism for their choice to sign Greenwood, but the club’s director contends that the 21-year-old is just like any other regular player because the court did not find him guilty of the allegations brought against him.
Ruben Reyes, the director, was quoted as saying at the beginning of this month, “We did what we do: sign players that are available to sign.” “There is nothing justification for us to handle anything [off the field]. All that has changed is that we have added a football player to our roster who is an exact replica of Diego Rico and Oscar Rodriguez. We must fulfill our obligations, so that is where we are focusing our attention.
He continued, “It is a year’s loan: it is extremely difficult to get an option to buy on a player [like him].” He will stick around for the full campaign. Although conversations [between the clubs] are taking place in secret, we try to keep those specifics to ourselves. They appreciated our efforts and our persuasiveness. We’re all quite excited about him. He was a player in the game, and we knew that. We put effort into it, learned about it, and eventually came to the conclusion that there was a chance it might work.
We spoke with his father and other members of his family and community for a long time. He came here and trusted us since we were able to convince him of our legitimacy. We’re happy with this.
He plays in a really relaxed manner, almost as if he were on the schoolyard. He is performing really well. We fantasized of being able to bring him here someday, and occasionally, our wish is realized.
