Real Madrid have reportedly approved a sensational swap proposal involving Liverpool’s out-of-form summer signing, with the Spanish giants hoping to land a long-time Reds target in return.
According to new reports from Spain, Real Madrid are willing to include Rodrygo in a potential exchange deal, with Xabi Alonso open to making the move happen.
The plan would see Los Blancos trade Rodrygo for Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz, who has struggled to settle since his big-money arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool began the season in impressive form, winning their first five Premier League games, but a poor run of four straight defeats allowed Arsenal to seize control of the title race.
Despite recent wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid, fans have been concerned about inconsistency — particularly in midfield, where Wirtz has yet to reach his expected level.
Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims Real Madrid are now interested in taking advantage of Wirtz’s slow adaptation by negotiating a swap. The report suggests both clubs are open to the idea, noting that Madrid previously passed on signing Wirtz due to his high fee.
It states: “Had Real Madrid taken a chance, Wirtz would have signed without hesitation. Though he does not regret choosing Liverpool, the Premier League has been tougher than he expected. He is still adjusting but improving slowly.”
Chris Waddle also commented on Wirtz’s early struggles, saying the 21-year-old remains an exceptional talent but is finding life difficult in both club and international football.
He noted that Premier League intensity, higher expectations, and life off the pitch may all be factors — but urged patience.
Waddle added that young players often need time to adapt, recalling his own slow start at Marseille before becoming a fan favourite.
Despite the complications involved, Real Madrid are reportedly serious about the proposal, while Rodrygo — admired by Liverpool for years — adds further intrigue to the developing situation.
