Liverpool FC may be approaching the close of a major chapter, as one of their most famous players is reportedly thinking about leaving this summer before tensions grow further at Anfield.
Of the long-standing trio — Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah — it is believed Salah could be the first to move on, even though his contract runs until 2027.
For nearly ten years, those three players have played a huge role in Liverpool’s return to the top of world football. However, every successful era eventually comes to an end.
Although Salah is still seen as one of the club’s most important figures, there are growing questions about his recent form.
After a public display of frustration last year, there have been signs that the forward, now in his thirties, may no longer be at his absolute peak. Journalist David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool are not planning to sell him this summer.
Still, if his performances continue to decline, the situation could become more complicated. Under manager Arne Slot, it may be difficult to guarantee a starting place to any player who is not delivering consistently, and Salah’s frustration when left out has been widely noted.
Reports also claim that during meetings in December to ease tensions, Salah’s representatives made it clear he would not accept a reduced role in the squad. That firm stance could create problems if his influence on the pitch continues to decrease.
Former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart has suggested that a summer transfer might benefit both sides before matters become worse.
He pointed out that defenders like Van Dijk can often perform at a high level into their mid-thirties, but attacking players such as Salah rely heavily on speed and sharp movement, qualities that can fade with age.
Van der Vaart also explained that managing big personalities is never easy.
Coaches must balance reputation with performance, and if a star player struggles or resists tactical adjustments, it can lead to dressing room tension and heavy media pressure.
Because of this, he believes allowing Salah to move on could help Liverpool avoid future conflict while giving the forward a fresh start elsewhere.
At the same time, Liverpool are planning ahead. The club are reportedly monitoring young talent Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur as part of their recruitment strategy.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid are said to have settled their search for a new centre-back this summer, although that decision is not connected to Ibrahima Konaté.
All of this suggests that while Salah’s future remains uncertain, Liverpool are preparing for possible major changes as they aim to stay competitive at the highest level.
