A new Premier League VAR alteration for Chelsea vs. Arsenal has been confirmed in the wake of the huge debate in Liverpool. In the wake of the earlier incidents, the Premier League has officially announced a major change to VAR. A goal by Liverpool’s Luis Diaz against Tottenham Hotspur was wrongfully disallowed due to a miscommunication from Stockley Park to the field.
The head of VAR, Darren England, declared that the review was complete after releasing Diaz, who was clearly behind the last Spurs defender, based on his belief that the goal was onside. Spurs won the match 2-1 after the VAR room officials quickly discovered their error. However, it was deemed too late to reverse the decision and give the goal.
Sky Sports’ Rob Hawthorne confirmed on live that a policy modification has been taken to ensure that an issue like this doesn’t arise again in the wake of the initial ruling’s confusion. To make sure both officials understand what they are checking, the phrase “pitch choice confirmed” will be heard before the words “check complete” are said.
The Chelsea player received a yellow card after Cole Palmer tackled Gabriel Jesus, and the incident was investigated for a potential sending-off. Shortly after VAR called for an on-field review of what appeared to be a hand ball by William Saliba, the winger gave the Blues the lead from the penalty spot.
Following the allocation of the penalty by Chris Kavanagh, Palmer sent David Raya the wrong way to give the home team the lead in a fierce London derby. Oleksandr Zinchenko was given two cards and a penalty after just 25 minutes for a foul on his international teammate Mykhailo Mudryk.
