Liverpool has had a promising pre-season under Arne Slot, securing victories against both Arsenal and Manchester United during their tour of the United States.

With one more friendly against Sevilla on August 11, Slot will soon be making his first Premier League team selection.

While some established players from Jurgen Klopp’s era will likely remain key starters, there are potentially a few spots in the starting XI up for grabs.

Slot, being a new manager, offers a fresh start for all squad members, creating competition for positions.

Despite a quiet transfer window so far, Slot seems to be taking his time to assess the squad’s depth and identify areas for improvement.

According to David Ornstein in The Athletic, even though Slot praised Ryan Gravenberch’s performance against Manchester United, Liverpool is now targeting a specialist No 6 from outside the Premier League.

Slot’s management style has kept the team alert and competitive, which could lead to future success if players avoid comparisons with the previous regime and work together.

The potential addition of new players would further increase competition within the squad, which is something Slot likely welcomes.

Despite heavy speculation, Liverpool have opted not to move forward with a potential £85 million deal for Alexander Isak. Instead, the club has shifted its transfer focus and funds toward other priority targets who are considered more suited to Arne Slot’s tactical plans.
