Based on current form, it’s hard to argue against Liverpool being the best team in world football right now.

The Reds remain unbeaten in the new Champions League format, following a 2-0 victory over reigning champions Real Madrid.

Under Arne Slot’s management, Liverpool have won every European match so far and boast an impressive Premier League record of 10 wins, one draw, and just one loss.

Despite this evidence, some still reference Manchester City’s past dominance. Pep Guardiola, however, avoided the debate when asked about Liverpool’s standing.

“They’re one of the best with their results, they’re proving that,” Guardiola told BBC Sport. “They play together, and Arne Slot is doing an incredible job. One year ago, they said Manchester City was the best team in the world. I didn’t pay attention for one second.”

It’s clear that watching a rival thrive while your team struggles isn’t easy, particularly as Liverpool’s success comes in Slot’s first season at Anfield. Meanwhile, Manchester City have hit a rough patch, going six games without a win since their last victory in October.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as Liverpool and City prepare to face each other. A win for Liverpool could create an 11-point gap, making it a daunting task for City to close. While Arsenal also remain in contention, Liverpool’s consistency makes them a formidable threat in the title race.

That said, it’s still early days, and Liverpool fans know better than to celebrate prematurely. The road to securing the title will be long and challenging, with twists and turns likely still to come.
