Roy Keane questioned the positioning of Manchester United’s Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot during Liverpool’s first goal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool opened the scoring after 35 minutes, following an earlier goal that was disallowed for offside.

Ryan Gravenberch intercepted a misplaced pass from Casemiro, advanced forward, and slipped the ball to Mohamed Salah, who delivered a perfect cross for Luis Diaz to head in.

The goal resulted from Casemiro’s decision to attempt a first-time pass intended for Kobbie Mainoo, and the Brazilian was also at fault for Liverpool’s second goal, which was again scored by Diaz and assisted by Salah.

While Keane recognized that Casemiro’s pass contributed to Liverpool’s first goal, he was frustrated by the lack of defensive cover in the wide areas.

Mazraoui and Dalot had pushed forward, anticipating that Casemiro’s pass would spark an attack for United.

At halftime, Keane told Sky Sports: “Casemiro made an error here… with all his experience, that’s not a pass you play first-time. It’s just not worth the risk.

“When they lose the ball, they’re all over the place. Players can make mistakes, but the defensive positioning is chaotic.

“Look at your right-back. Where is he? Where is your left-back? You’re not in control.

“Liverpool is strong enough to punish them. Good players will take advantage of those mistakes.”
