Should current manager John Eustace decide to go on to Rangers, the former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney has emerged as a potential target for Birmingham City.
According to The Daily Mirror, the Blues are already drafting a list of potential replacements, with Rooney leading the way, because Birmingham City’s current boss Eustace is being pursued by Scottish Premiership powerhouse Rangers.
After leading Derby County for two years, it is well known that Rooney would like to play football again in England and “rebuild” his management career there.
Rooney is presently in charge of DC United, who are ranked ninth in the MLS Eastern Conference.
Birmingham City, who had a strong start to the 2023–24 season, is currently fourth in the Championship. The Blues have 11 points after five games with wins over Plymouth Argyle, Bristol City, and Leeds United, as well as draws against Millwall and Swansea.
