Liverpool manager Arne Slot has commented on the Premier League’s massive spending, particularly addressing Manchester City’s recent decision to extend Erling Haaland’s contract for ten years at a record-breaking £500,000 per week.
Slot noted that Manchester City is not alone in itself lavish spending, highlighting Chelsea and Manchester United as other major clubs making significant financial investments.
Since 2016, Chelsea has spent an astounding £2.04 billion, with Manchester City and Manchester United each investing around £1.5 billion.
In contrast, Liverpool has taken a more restrained approach, spending £940 million in the same period. Despite this financial disparity, Slot expressed confidence in Liverpool’s ability to remain competitive against the league’s biggest spenders.
He emphasized that the Premier League’s excitement stems from its intense competition and high stakes. While Liverpool may not be the league’s biggest spender, Slot believes in the strength of the current squad and remains determined to challenge the financial giants of English football.
