Liverpool may be in the market for a new center-forward during the summer transfer window, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen being a potential target, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
Darwin Nunez has been Jurgen Klopp’s primary striker this season, but Liverpool’s management could be seeking another top-level forward due to Nunez’s inconsistent performances.
Despite competing strongly in the Premier League, Liverpool have fallen behind Manchester City, who have relied on Erling Haaland’s scoring ability.
Reports suggest Osimhen wants to leave Napoli at the end of the season, and Liverpool is among the interested clubs, along with Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. Osimhen, earning £250k-a-week, has a €130m (£111m) release clause in his contract.
Osimhen, described as ‘world-class’ by Folarin Balogun and a ‘cheat code’ by Nigerian teammate Emmanuel Dennis, dreams of a Premier League move and could provide the scoring boost Liverpool needs to challenge for the title.
When asked about his future, Osimhen indicated his interest in playing in the Premier League when the opportunity arises.
“Of course one day, definitely but for now, I have other plans in my career that I am looking forward to. So when the time comes, everyone knows.”
