The manager of Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino, offers his condolences to the club’s supporters and voiced his displeasure with the Premier League for scheduling the Blues’ game against Wolves on Christmas Eve.
The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST) has called the decision to schedule the match for 1.30 p.m. on Christmas Eve “unacceptable.”
Pochettino is upset that he will not be able to celebrate his 31st wedding anniversary with his wife because this would be the first top-tier match to take place on Christmas Eve since 1995.
During his Friday press conference, Pochettino expressed his feelings honestly, although he also acknowledged that it is doubtful that his hopes for a schedule change will come to pass.
“Our fans are not happy?” he said. No, not me. I’m not happy either because I have to travel to Wolves on my anniversary, which is on the 23rd. I’m not going to stay at home on the 23rd.
Pochettino is doubtful about Chelsea’s chances of successfully requesting a new date, despite the CST’s request for the league to reschedule the game.
“It’s difficult because I think it’s not easy to change,” he said. We have to acknowledge that, as unique as England is from the rest of the globe, we are here. Even though I’m not happy, I have to adjust and do my best.”
